Chatbots in language learning: Assessing the potential of virtual tutors in mobile apps
Thanks to recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) and machine learning the adoption of chatbots has considerably increased in the last decade. This presentation will focus on the main affordances and limitations of using chatbots in mobile applications (MALL) and their potential for language learning considering different aspects such as vocabulary development or error correction and detection.
Jose Belda-Medina is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of English Studies from the Universidad de Alicante (Spain). He has taught language and linguistics for 20 years both in Spain and overseas (Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Poland, USA). He has participated in the development of different English and Spanish language teaching programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
